Geneva Talks Intensify as US and Iran Remain Locked in Nuclear Standoff

Indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran are underway in Geneva, but major differences remain unresolved.

With Oman acting as mediator, officials from both sides are participating in a third round of discussions focused on Iran’s nuclear program. The US delegation includes special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Iran is represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Washington insists that Iran must completely halt uranium enrichment and curb its missile development. Tehran rejects those demands, arguing it has a sovereign right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy and demanding the lifting of sanctions.

Meanwhile, the US has deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike groups to the region — its largest military buildup in West Asia in over two decades.

Diplomacy continues, but the stakes have rarely been higher.
