Heavyweight boxer Herbert Matovu was awarded the Boxer of September title after a dominant performance in the Africa Boxing Union Regional Title bout. Matovu knocked out Tanzania’s Kheri Mbaruku in the first round during the fight held at YMCA Kampala on September 7, 2024, as part of the Sweet Science Fights organized by Nara Promotions. His victory, achieved in the opening minutes of the fight, left a strong impression on the local boxing community. Matovu’s triumph in this prestigious bout outshone fellow contenders Ukasha Matovu and Owen Kibira, who had also excelled in the Uganda Boxing Champions League. The knockout win not only earned him the September accolade but also solidified his status as a rising force in Uganda’s heavyweight boxing circuit.
